Attorney Scott Gross Spares Client Life Sentence

In a Newsday article, New York Supreme Court Justice Fernando Camacho applauded Attorney Scott Gross for defending a client who had pleaded guilty in March to five counts of aggravated vehicular and six counts of first-degree assault.
The defendant had been charged with second-degree murder after fleeing police at speeds of 154 mph in a stolen vehicle—carrying crack cocaine and other illegal substances—and crashing into multiple vehicles, killing five people in the accident on February 14, 2018—including the lone passenger in his car.
The judge sentenced the defendant to 27 years in prison. But before imposing the sentence, he had to address the defendant’s failure to appear in the Central Islip courthouse and his written request to withdraw his guilty plea.
Judge Camacho pointed out Attorney Gross sought professional assistance from experts and prepared a thorough defense for his client.
“Mr. Gross is an incredibly able attorney, and is one of the best attorneys in the county,” Camacho said in court.
“He spared his client a life sentence.”
The judge added that the defendant feels no remorse for his actions based on his extensive criminal record. Yet, despite being convicted of multiple drug charges, and accused of abusing and trafficking women, Attorney Gross helped his client obtain the most favorable outcome possible in his case.
